25 years in pharma distribution - still based in Chennai
Chennai Drugs and Chemicals was founded in 1999by Mr. Krishnamurthy, starting with APIs and vitamins for manufacturers in the Chennai region. Over 25 years, we've expanded our portfolio and distribution reach - but the business is still run the same way it always was: source carefully, document thoroughly, deliver on time.
Today we supply Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, vitamins, excipients, nutraceutical APIs, bulk drugs, pharmaceutical chemicals, specialty chemicals and laboratory chemicals to manufacturers, hospitals, clinics, distributors and research institutions across India.
Every product we distribute meets Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP), British Pharmacopoeia (BP), United States Pharmacopeia (USP), or European Pharmacopoeia (EP) standards as applicable - with the batch documentation to prove it.

How We Got Here
Founded by Mr. Krishnamurthy
Mr. Krishnamurthy started the company in Chennai with a straightforward goal: supply pharmaceutical manufacturers and healthcare businesses with APIs and vitamins they could actually rely on - good documentation, reliable stock, no surprises. The region had plenty of suppliers. What was harder to find was consistency.
Expanding into pharmaceutical chemicals and specialty products
Client demand drove the expansion. Manufacturers who were buying APIs from us started asking for excipients, solvents and specialty chemicals too. Rather than send them elsewhere, we built out the portfolio - pharmaceutical chemicals, bulk drugs, specialty chemicals and laboratory chemicals. One supplier relationship instead of several.
Mr. Jagadesh Krishnamurthy Joins as Director
Mr. Jagadesh Krishnamurthy joined as Director in 2020. He grew up watching the business and understood early what made it work - supplier relationships built on trust, documentation that actually holds up under audit and clients who call back because they don't have to worry about what they're receiving.
The priorities haven't changed. What has changed is the scale - more products, more states, more clients - and the infrastructure to support it.
Still in Chennai, still doing the same thing
We supply APIs, bulk drugs, pharmaceutical chemicals and lab chemicals to manufacturers, hospitals and distributors across India. The range has grown, the reach has grown - but the way we operate hasn't. Same documentation standards, same people, same commitment to not sending out a batch we wouldn't stand behind.
